Where has all the history gone?
It is getting to the point where all knowledge is on the World Wide Web, or all rapidly being put into the web. And then there is knowledge or data that only exists within the Web - physically on some server somewhere.
Now imagine that in the near future that the sum of all knowledge is stored on a single DVD. Not just as text, but all media - sound, images, video. Further imagine that it is now post Armageddon. This DVD is uncovered by some wandering aliens. What will they make of this disk - after a little while they will realize that there are only 1's and 0's on this disk. At least on earth in ancient times, we had hyrogliphics or cave paintains that are relatively easy to decipher. Even written language is. But a whole pile of ones and zeroes?
How can this pile of 1's and 0's ever be deciphered. These are not even stored on a disk in any sequential order. They are stored in segments referenced by an index somewhere on the disk. And they are in binary but actually in hexadecimal, and then there are mutiple layers of coding conventions (mp3 vs mp4 vs wav vs jpg vs ascii etc etc etc). How will the aliens ever uncover this sum of all human knowledge?

Seemed pretty quick and painless to me.
Interesting principles that the death penalty is deemed to be constitutional so long as it does not cause pain and stress etc.
So is it constitutional to cause pain and stress so long as it does not lead to death?
Why is there such a liberal use of the word "unconstitutional" - what part of the constitution exactly? The constitution of my baloney roll... which is basically unidentifiable mish-mash of pink colored things that may not even be meat or from this planet?
